Students Councils

Students Councils; these are the bodies that promote the welfare of the students in the two departments. The students partake in choosing their representatives to the councils. The term of service is one academic year. The Councils consist of the Coordinator, Secretaries, Treasurer, Cultural minister and Class representatives.

Duties of the Councils:

      • To link the students with the administration.
      • To coordinate the general activities of the students;
      • To convene the meetings of the students.
      • To inform the students on development or changes they need to know about.
      • To promote the interests of the students.
      • To facilitate the common good of all students.


Disciplinary Issues:
This entails both academic and non-academic offences.
Academic Offences

A student commits an academic offence if he/she:

      1. Cheats in an examination, that is to say, copies answer, uses unauthorized material, or intentionally shares answers with others during continuous assessment tests or other examinations.
      2. Is found with any unauthorized materials, gadgets or equipment in the examination room.
      3. Is found with writing on materials, gadgets or equipment or any part of the body.
      4. Conceals or destroys or attempts to conceal or destroy any incriminating evidence or any unauthorized materials, gadgets or equipment.
      5. Refuses/resists to cooperate with and/or obey the instructions of the invigilators and/or any other authorized officials during the examination.
      6. Procures another person to write or do any coursework, or any other assigned academic work for him/her.
      7. Plagiarizes material for research papers or any assignments.
      8. Copies answers for assignments.
      9. Assists others to commit or attempt to commit an academic offence or assists those who have committed such offences to escape detection and punishment.
      10. Fails to sit for an examination for which he/she has been registered without good reason or without approval of the Academic Secretaries.
      11. Steals library materials/equipment, removes materials from the library without authorization, or willfully damages material /equipment.
      12. Gains unauthorized access to and alterations of marks and forges or attempts to forge transcripts and any other form of unauthorized alteration of transcripts or marks.
      13. Bribes or attempts to bribe, advances sexual favors to, or threatens Lecturers or any other institute official for the purpose of inducing them to award or change marks.
      14. Allows another student to use his/her student identification card to take an examination.
      15. Uses another student’s identity card to take an examination.
      16. Attempts to induce any of the institute’s staff to leak examinations.
      17. Without good cause repeatedly fails to attend Lecturer, tutorials, seminars, practical or any other scheduled courses of instruction.
      18. Fails to comply with any other regulations made by the Institute for the smooth running of academic programmes and any other academic misconduct deemed contrary to the Institute’s core values.
      19. Fails to adhere to the examination rules approved by the Institute


Non-Academic Offences

The following are considered non-academic offences:

      1. Assaulting any member of the Institute community.
      2. Forging a document or perpetrating forgery with intent to cause loss to any person or the Institute in cash or otherwise. This includes payment receipts by students.
      3. Forgery or misuse of any of the Institute’s document identification.
      4. Theft or damage to the Institute’s property and to other members of the Institute.
      5. Verbal abuse, threats, intimidation, or harassment of any person on the Institute’s premises.
      6. Knowingly inviting or entertaining a student in the Institute who has been barred from the Institute’s premises.
      7. Getting drunk either within or outside the Institute by voluntary consumption of alcohol and/or drugs.
      8. Consuming any intoxicating drugs within the Institute.
      9. Possession of dangerous weapons that may be a threat to peace.
      10. All forms of immoral conduct.
      11. Circulating unauthorized publications or placing unacceptable material within the Institute’s premises or removing valid or official notices without permission
      12. Disrespect to ecclesiastical symbols (e.g., the Cross) or National symbols (e.g., the flag).
      13. Demeaning other people’s dignity through character assassination. This includes use of slanderous, abusive, obscene or threatening language by any student against any person within the Institute.
      14. Any conduct deemed contrary to the spirit of the AJIPT’s Catholic Identity.
      15. Violation of library regulation.


Suspension and Expulsion

A student can either be suspended or expelled on the following basis:

      1. If after two successive semesters on probation and, the cumulative grade does not meet the minimum standards for satisfactory progress.
      2. If at the end of any semester the cumulative grade falls below a Pass Grade with the exception of students in the first year, first semester.
      3. In each case, the student has a right to appeal to the respective HoD for review of such a decision. Cf. Title VI of this Statutes.
