Examination Rules

      • Teachers must administer a written examination on taught components of each course at the end of every semester. Oral Examinations may be permitted on non-fundamental courses only in cases of necessity; and in prior consultation with the HoDs.
      • The normal guidelines for the assessment of the examination will be a combination of Term Papers and/or CAT as well as End of Semester Examination results.
      • Each student is expected to attain a pass mark in all courses in order to be promoted to the next class. Failure to achieve such a mark involves a re-sit of the examination.
      • Students’ marks are entered in their personal academic record book signed by the Lecturer upon the entry of the mark, and certified by the HoDs.
      • A candidate who misses an examination without permission is regarded as having failed in the not-taken examination. Thus, such student will be expected to re-take the course.
      • For admission to the Baccalaureate Degree in Philosophy and Theology Examinations, students shall have completed two and a half academic years (five semesters); and shall have passed all the fundamental courses of the programmes and completed their M.R.P.

        Re-sit Examinations

      • Those who fail in any course will be required to take a re-sit examination within 21 days after the opening of a new semester. Re-sit examination is administered once, and it is not a right.
      • For those who fail in any course in the second semester, a re-sit examination will be arranged as soon as possible at the beginning of a new academic year. As for the third year (finalists) expected to graduate immediately at the end of the sixth semester, there will be no re-sit examinations administered. The mark attained in the sixth semester examinations will be final.
      • A student who fails a re-sit examination retains the best of either the original mark or the re-sit mark.
      • It is the responsibility of the candidate for the re-sit examinations to see the lecturer concerned not later than one week before the given date of examinations; In a re-sit examination, the student attains a mark of 40. However, as indicated before, if a candidate fails the re-sit examination, he/she retains the best mark of the two options.
      • A student guilty of plagiarism in examinations or in any other academic work, will lose all the credits proper to the course, lose the right to repeat the examinations, may be required to repeat the entire academic year and may be expelled if deemed a persistent offender in this respect.
