About Us; The Apostles of Jesus Institute of Philosophy and Theology – In accordance with the Instruction on the Affiliation of Institutes of Higher Studies and the Apostolic Constitution, Veritatis Gaudium (hereafter abbreviated and termed as VG), the AJ with its two Institutes; namely, the Apostles of Jesus Institute of Philosophy (AJIP) and the Apostles of Jesus Institute of Theology (AJIT), affiliated to the Faculties of Philosophy and Theology of the PUU, respectively, will hereafter be called “Apostles of Jesus Institute of Philosophy and Theology” (hereafter abbreviated as AJIPT), when referring to the two institutes as a single entity.

Each of the institutes will, hereafter, be termed department, that is, the Apostles of Jesus Institute Philosophy Department (AJIPD) and About us the Apostles of Jesus Institute Theology Department (AJITD).
Notwithstanding their being a single entity with one statute, AJIPT’s two departments operate with considerable degree of autonomy in their internal structures and programmes, with each under the Head of Department (HoD), that is, HoD Philosophy and HoD Theology.

Nature and Specific Purpose of the Institute
Nature of the Institute

• • • The juridical nature of the AJIPT results from the affiliation of its two departments: AJIPD and AJITD, to the faculties of philosophy and theology of the PUU, respectively, for the award of Baccalaureate Degrees in Philosophy and Theology.
    • This is in accordance with the Apostolic Constitution, Veritatis Gaudium and by its Norms of Application. Due to the affiliation of AJIPT to the Faculties of Philosophy and Theology of the PUU that gives its juridical nature, the Congregation for Catholic Education (hereafter abbreviated and termed as CCE) authorizes the respective Faculties of the PUU to confer the degrees of Baccalaureate in philosophy and theology on students who have fulfilled all the requirements for such degrees, in accordance with the academic regulations and Plan of Studies presented to the PUU and approved by the CCE.

The AJITD was granted its first affiliation, on 18.12.1984 in Prot. N. 716/A/84 to the Faculty of Theology of the PUU, by the CCE and the AJIPD was granted its first affiliation on 10^th March 1999 to the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical Urbaniana University, by the CCE.

Specific Purpose
The Apostles of Jesus Institute Philosophy Department (AJIPD)

• • • The AJIPD aims at training students in the method and philosophical rigor, taking care of the acquisition of the intellectual habit of philosophy, developing reflection starting from a healthy phenomenology to rise to the ultimate causes to seek the solution of philosophical problems in the natural light of reason. This training proposal favors direct access to the sources of philosophy, urging us to rediscover its sapiential dimension and to resume the interrupted paths of metaphysics to respond to the internal needs of the believing act as well as to the challenge of new Christian Inculturation.
    • In doing so, it is a place of learning, as it offers students a systematic exposition of philosophy on man, on the world and on God, showing the intrinsic harmony between human reason and the Christian Africa.
    • The organization of studies of the AJIPD follows the directives contained in the Decree for the Reform of Ecclesiastical Studies of Philosophy, issued by the Congregation for Catholic Education on January 28^th 2011, and of the apostolic constitution VG, promulgated by Pope Francis on 8 December 2017. The AJIPD prepares students in the first cycle for: 1) a three-year course that takes place in six semesters and ends with the award of Baccalaureate in Philosophy conferred by PUU.

The Apostles of Jesus Institute Theology Department (AJIPD)

• • • The AJITD aims at providing the spiritual, intellectual and pastoral training for the AJ students, without excluding students from other religious institutes and dioceses who have the desire to dedicate their lives to be Religious and/or Priests, and Missionaries in the Catholic Church.
    • A general introduction to the disciplines concerning the Sacred Scripture, the dogma of faith and morals, the life and institutions of the Church, the ways of evangelical proclamation and the methods of scientific research has been well designed. It is comprehensive, coherent, progressive, outlined with the intent to guide the students on their journey to priesthood or religious life for the task ahead of them. Every effort has been made to ensure that each course complements the others.
    • The organization of studies of the AJITD follows the directives contained in the Decree for the Reform of Ecclesiastical Studies of the apostolic constitution VG, promulgated by Pope Francis on 8 December 2017. The AJITD prepares students in the first cycle for: 1) a three-year course comprising of six (6) semesters that end with the award of the by PUU; 2) a one-year course comprising of two (2) semesters for those of the ministerial year (candidates to priesthood) and ends with the award of internal Diploma conferred by the AJ.
